Averi is Deputy Political Director at ABC News where she helps oversee campaign coverage and manage a stellar team of reporters while providing on-air analysis across platforms. She came to ABC News in April 2019 to crisscross the country covering the 2020 presidential election as a campaign reporter and producer. She covered a host of candidates during the Democratic primary, including Sen. Bernie Sanders and now President Joe Biden. She covered Vice President Kamala Harris’s historic run during the general election. She became Deputy Director in 2021. 
 
Prior to joining ABC News, she was a general assignment reporter at hyperlocal news network News 12 New York. She also hosted and co-produced a magazine show focused on minority issues called Diverse Long Island. Averi also worked as a morning reporter for KRON 4 News in the San Francisco Bay Area. Even though she isn’t a sports reporter, she got the chance to report on Super Bowl 50, the 2016 and 2017 NBA Finals, and the 2016 Stanley Cup. She started her career at WCTI NewsChannel 12 in Greenville, North Carolina, as a bureau reporter and fill-in anchor. On the Carolina coast, she covered severe weather and crime. 
 
She is an alumna of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studied broadcast journalism. She holds a Master of Science degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
