David Hurlburt is Director of Special Projects & Group Initiatives for Hearst Television, based at the company’s Washington, DC, News Bureau. He manages group-wide initiatives and projects, including Hearst Television’s “Forecasting Our Future” and “Project CommUNITY” efforts, as well as the company’s Peabody and Cronkite Award-winning biennial “Commitment” initiative for political coverage. He also has oversight of Hearst Television's National Investigative and Consumer reporting units.

Hurlburt joined Hearst Television in 1998 as a producer at WPTZ-TV, the company’s NBC affiliate serving the Burlington, Vermont/Plattsburgh. NY, television market, before moving to Hearst’s WMUR-TV in Manchester, N.H., and then to WCVB-TV NewsCenter 5, Hearst's flagship station in Boston.  At WCVB, he was Executive Producer of Special Projects, overseeing on-air specials in newscasts and primetime special programs, along with the station’s investigative unit, weekly news series and political coverage, among other responsibilities. He also led the station’s award-winning “5 On: State of Addiction” opioids-coverage campaign.

Over the course of his career, Hurlburt has been honored with two national Edward R. Murrow awards for Large Market Newscast and News Series, along with several regional Murrow awards. He received New England Emmy awards for investigative, medical, political, and breaking news coverage, as well as National Headliner Awards for investigative journalism, breaking news, and newscast production.
